and Hippology, the study of horses

Instructor:  Rev. Barbara A. Kostelnik, Th.M.
Assistant instructors: Rev. Joseph Kostelnik, Ph.D.
Rev. J. Solomon Kostelnik, BA

Working with horses develops many qualities that last a lifetime:
self-confidence -- responsibility -- kindness -- fitness -- gratitude --
physical and emotional wellness --- plus, it's just plain fun!

This is a horsemanship school.  No trail rides, sorry.

Private Horsemanship and Horse Husbandry lessons,
specializing in beginners!

Our 2017 Season is over
Sign up now for 2018!

Come to Blue Rock Horse Park for the complete
"equine experience":
intensive, hands-on learning of all aspects of horseback riding AND horse husbandry. Learn everything from barn chores to training horses to horse shows to horse color genetics, to Western and English riding from rank beginner through Intermediate Level, from experienced instructors.

Each session is approximately 2 hours long, to provide an unrushed, immersive experience, where many find they are entering "Horse Heaven" !
Our students and their families often become our friends for life.

Registration is still extremely limited... we accept only one student per day,
only 4-5 days per week. Starting times can range from 11 AM until dark.

Again, there are no group lessons or recreational trail rides available,
though trail riding is one of the many skills that can be learned here.

Pricing: $40 per 2 hour session, or a prepaid package of 3 sessions for $100 ($33.33... each). Scholarships may be available, based upon need and interest level of the student. We can accept accept cash, PayPal, credit cards or checks.

If you or the student are not sure of their interest level, we offer a half-hour introductory session for $10, where you will get a tour of the facility and a description of what we do. You will be able to pet the horses and feed them treats from behind a fence.

You can email us here.  Thanks!

"Blue Rock Horse Park" is just the name we've given our horse hobby:
we board our two horses, ride, teach, train, and "just hang out",
in the NW Cincinnati suburb of White Oak West.

You may click any of the links
<=== at left, at any time.
Just "take any saddle from the rack".
They turn into "Cowboy saddles" if you hover your cursor over them.

It all happens on a very gracious family's farm land, where Galbraith Rd. dead-ends onto Blue Rock Road. We have the use of about 15 acres of fields and trails, 3 walk-in stalls, 2-3 acres of pasture, and our 45' round pen.  Our home is just two miles away.  We're the only ones boarding there, happily, since June 1999!

The horses are kept very "naturally"; the stalls open into the pasture, and are left open for them to go in and out as they please, most days.

Sorry, we cannot accept volunteers at this time due to our insurance.  However, email us if you really want to work at the barn;
if we get very many people wanting to volunteer,
as some have in the past for school credit, etc.,
we may be able to change our insurance in the future.

Please have a look around our web site,
meet our horses and us, and marvel with us
at what God has provided right in the heart of the
northwestern Cincinnati suburb of White Oak West.

At this location, we offer:

  •  English and Western riding lessons

  •  round pen (super-safe, small enclosure) lessons & training

  •  large grassy fields & wooded trails for more advanced lessons

  •  barrels, for learning barrel-racing or just riding around

  •  cones, to learn pole bending, or practice serpentines

  •  how to do ground training/round penning

  •  equine body language and behavior

  •  basic, SAFE horse handling

  •  equipment/tack use and care lessons

  •  all-around stable safety and "barn-keeping"

  •  horse grooming, health and care

  •  equine color genetics (click to see just one of Barbara's equine color web sites)

  •  trail riding lessons

-- and more, all of which falls under the heading of "hippology"!

We have never offered trail rides.  We only have two horses right now, and are not insured for that, or parties, etc.  Just lessons.

* Our "SUPER-natural" Hippology is based on many years of equestrian
AND Bible study, learning and experience.

We consider every good thing in our lives to be a gift from God*,
and we thank Him daily for the privilege of being able to enjoy them all: our very lives, our health, our church, our horses, our family and friends, and the barn and land where we board and enjoy our horses.
And you are invited to enjoy all of them with us!

We'd now like to share our fondest equine memory with you:

In Loving Memory
Amir Halam, 1980-2011

This kind, patient, and dignified Arabian gelding is Amir Halam.

He was our main riding and lesson horse for many years. He's shown here freshly bathed (still wet!), with 3 of that year's 8 horsemanship students getting ready for the annual Harvest Home Fair Horse Show.

We're not officially connected with the Fair, but we usually attend,
and we and our students sometimes show there.

from the Father of lights"  ---  James, chapter1, verses 16 & 17

The stable is on Blue Rock Road, which is named after Blue Rock Creek.
It and the Taylor Creek tributary that flows through the land at the barn are
replete with slate and shale, which is more or less ... "Blue"!
